MiAA Welcomes New Affiliate Leaders

We would like to welcome Brian Kavanaugh and Carolyn White who will head our newly formed Metro Detroit Affiliate. Ms. White is the Programs Coordinator and Mr. Kavanaugh will be the affiliate committee Chairperson. “Michigan Arts Access is fortunate to have these veteran arts and disabilities advocates lead our efforts in Metro Detroit. Mr. Kavanaugh just returned from studying art and disability in Romania on a Fulbright Scholarship. He was also involved with the formation of Soul Studio, where he also worked as a teaching artist. Mr. Kavanaugh earned his MFA in Painting from Cranbrook.

Ms. White is a former board members, and has been a leader in the special education field as an administrator in Detroit and Highland Park, and a tireless advocate for arts in education. She was also instrumental in the success of our acclaimed artsJAM program, which provided jobs and mentoring opportunities in the arts for people with disabilities.

Michigan Arts Access Affiliate Committees are responsible for programs within the region, including artist residencies in schools and Club Create for adults with disabilities.
